Nội dung khóa học

By using the integrative theory and case study (national and international), inspires students to think, analyze and discuss the related issues as well as present their ideas.

While people have a long history of capturing marine organism as an important protein source, a large proportion of our marine resources is overexploited. This class will introduce the basic concept of fisheries science and ecological consequences of failed fisheries management. These are particularly important for people who are interested in natural resource management and marine conservation science.

On this course, you will gain in-depth understanding of marine conservation laws and policies, which are essential in protecting our oceans and seas. In particular, we will study the case of Taiwan and get to know how Taiwan transforms to be a responsible ocean country and achieves marine sustainbility. The transformation of Taiwan echos the global awareness raised by international communities. The awareness turns out to be a force to seek solutions to protect the ocean and take global ocean actions together with other countries. Through the example of Taiwan, we may reflect on what the government can do to help from the legal and policy
perspective.

An increase in marine pollutant levels has been found, potentially leading to significant environmental/human health hazards. Learners will develop a detailed understanding of different categories of anthropogenic pollutants on marine systems. Each theme will be explored from a variety of angles including pollution sources, transport, toxic impacts, ultimate fates, and management of the issue, and some likely futures for the issue/theme.
