Malignant tumors rank as the leading cause of death in Taiwan. However, the complex process by which normal cells transform into cancer cells is not yet fully understood. This course will introduce the environmental and genetic factors related to the development of malignant tumors that we encounter in daily life. Practical example questions are designed, such as: How can we distinguish between benign and malignant tumors? If I eat instant noodles every day, will I get cancer? Does a vegetarian diet reduce the risk of cancer? Through a problem-based learning approach, learners’ understanding will be assessed. The course scenarios are designed to help learners think about how to prevent tumor formation in daily life, explore questions in life sciences, make proper use of biotechnological tools, and address current global challenges to human health.
The course integrates the The Cancer Code: Exploring Hidden Risks in Daily Life videos with everyday conversations to help students practice English terminology related to biochemistry.
